Joyce B. Amy, of Lafayette, LA, died August 19, 2011 at Cornerstone South after a long battle with Alzheirner ‘s. Many members of the Society for Louisiana Irises will recall Joyce and her late husband, Charles W. Amy.
She is survived by her only son, Charles W. Amy III; and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Amy Jr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Bachemin; one sister; and six brothers.
Joyce was born on June 30,1921 in Covington, La. She was a long time resident of Lafayette, La., teaching in the Lafayette Parish School System for many years. Joyce, also known as “Aunt Joyce” by many, was a loving wife and mother. She loved her garden and was active in the local garden club and hosted many socials for the Society for Louisiana Irises. Joyce touched the lives of many-her students, her family, and her many friends.
Her memory will live long in the Society for Louisiana Irises. In a final act of generosity, Joyce donated her body to the LSD School of Medicine for medical research.
