Louisiana irises along Big Lake, City Park in New Orleans
Established April, 2000
The Society for Louisiana Irises first went on line at http://sliris.bizland.com in April 2000 during the construction of our Web site. In October of 2000, SLI registered the domain name of louisianas.org and can now be found at www.louisianas.org. "Louisianas" is a term used by many iris enthusiasts when referring to the collective group of species and cultivars known as the Louisiana irises--hence the name.
Tom Dillard, Patrick O'Connor, Harry Wolford, Richard Sloan, Paul Gossett, Wynne Thursby, Mark A. Cook, Heather Pryor, Peter Royce Jackson, Kevin Vaughn, Greg McCullough, Bill Smoot, Tom Tadfor Little and many of the subscribers of the LAIRIS list serv--a fantastic, patient, multi-talented group of people--have assisted in many ways with this project. The original web pages and graphics were designed by Pam Ingle. The design of the website was inspired by a wonderful photo of EASTER TIDE taken by Harry Wolford.
Fifteen years later, we have migrated to a new website based on the Joomla Content Management System. There are many new and exciting feautres to look forward to including online renewals and purchases of SLI publications.
We are, without a doubt, especially indebted to Marie Caillet, for her enthusiasm for this group of wonderful flowers, and for the time and effort that she has devoted over the past 60 years in archiving information about the Society.
We hope to provide more articles, links, photos and information over the months to come, and look forward to your suggestions and contributions. Come back often, and watch us bloom!
